ジョンは交通事故で入院中だったので参加していない。

どうやら彼が18世紀の本で見つけた詩から引用したもので
あちこちの単語を変えたものだ

I was playing the piano in Liverpool in my dad’s house,
and my stepsister Ruth’s piano book was up on the stand.
I was flicking through it and I came to ‘Golden Slumbers’.
I can’t read music and I couldn’t remember the old tune,
so I just started playing my own tune to it.
I liked the words so I kept them,
and it fitted with another bit of song I had.

リバプールの父の家でピアノを弾いていた時
義理の妹ルースのピアノ教本がピアノスタンドにかかっていたんだ
パラパラとめくっていると‘Golden Slumbers’に出会ったのさ
楽譜は読めないし昔の曲も思い出せなかったから
自分で曲を弾き始めた
歌詞が気に入ったのでそのままにしたけどそれは持っていた別の曲とぴったりだったんだ

その出会った『Golden Slumbers』は、
エリザベス朝の詩人で劇作家のトーマス・デッカーのもの。

原文そのままではなくて、
ポールが少し変更して曲に使われている。

Variation

まず7/2、
15テイク録音が吹き込まれる。

翌日に第13テイクと第15テイクを選んで編集を行い、
これを第13テイクに。

次の曲『Carry That Weight』のポールとジョージがギターとユニゾン・コーラスをオーバー・ダブ、
これで8トラックが一杯になったのでリダクションして第16.17テイクを作成。

更に翌日、
オーバー・ダブのセッション。

7/30.31、
ポールのヴォーカル、
ドラムスとティンパニのオーバー・ダブ。

そして8/15、
オーケストラのアレンジが加えられて完成。

Mama’s Gan: Golden Slumbers

ママズ・ガン2011年、
アルバム『Mama’s Gan – Across The Road』に収録。

以前『Carry That Weight』の時に、
アルバムの収録曲で出てきている。

エレオノーラ・ベッディーニが唄うこのカヴァー、
結構沁みる。

Sand, Water & Wind: Golden Slumbers

サンド、ウォーター＆ウインド、
2015年の『Abbey Road, Jazz-Bossa Beatles Tribute（Replayed & Reconstructed）』収録。

これも、
以前『The End』の時に出てきていた。

まあ、
気持ち良く聴けるカヴァーだ。

Pat Murray & Mark Kieswetter: Golden Slumbers

カナダのパット・マレーと同じくカナダのマーク・キースウェッター、
2010年のアルバム『Ticket To Ride – The Beatles Book』収録。

自分の曲にしている感が強く、
結構良い感じのカヴァーになっている。
